It does not surprise me that the "Heros'" segment of this web site has yet to have a single post. Detroit Firefighters are very humble relative to their chosen profession, instead electing to go on saving lives , rescuing people and suppressing blazes with little or no kudos. Just another day at work, right? Wrong!
Over the course of the last two score years the DFD has continued to excel, doing so despite of less manpower, equipment, money, training and community support. The cream always rises to the top. Individually you are all true hero's. With a median age of over 43 years old and a constant double digit duty injury rate you don't quit, you forge ahead and try to make a difference.
Detroit Fire has, and continues, to work more and harder than anyone, anywhere in the fire service. As a felony crime, arson in the city continues to not be taken seriously by nobody but us, and, a severe lack of manpower continues to plague all efforts to stem the tide of carnage and destruction. If arson's were homicides or robberies, their would be a cry so loud that the city fathers and feds would have curtailed this tragedy many years ago. We may have been able to save many lives, injuries and even whole neighborhoods.
Pray that our new Detroit Fire Commissioner has the intestinal fortitude and common sense to stand-up to this or any mayor and always do the right thing. Remember, the squeaky wheel always gets the oil.
